Topic: Methods to revive the IRC network

These days it seems that the majority of the folks on the IRC network are working 60-80 hour weeks and rarely have time to pitch in and help rebuild the IRC network... I'm wondering if anyone has ideas for how we can start growing the network so we have something fun to come onto on a daily basis again. We obviously need to get some new people on there to get the wheels turning, maybe small communities with similar skill-sets, etc. neutral

What do you think?

Re: Methods to revive the IRC network

Well I think we should try to steal people from FreeNode and OFTC, because a lot of similar minded people hang out there, and many opensource projects hang out there. For example Vyatta has their irc channel on Freenode, we should seek out people willing to step over to a small network, where a short line is held with the administrator's for comfort. That said, we should then be willing to fully assist them in transitioning their channel, by analyzing the possabilities of the services on the previous network and help set them up their channel.

Another alternative is linking in other networks, but I do not know of any likeminded network small enough to incorporate without loosing our name (for instance, we could partner up with FreeNode, but we would loose the Oceanius identity).

Putting the fun back in funnel.
